I Visit Tanzania/ travel to Tanzania because is a home to a two renowned tourism destinations, Highest mountain, Kilimanjaro mountain and wildlife rich nation al parks. It is a very relaxed and liberal country but is still so modesty. Tanzania is a tourist destination for animals lovers and much more to offer than the big five animals. It is the home to Africa’s most famous national parks and Natural attraction with a majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. A lot of things available in Tanzania are the reason to many people visit the country. Tanzania is blessed country with incredible game reserves teeming with wildlife to glorious beaches, luxurious accommodation and incredible culture and food.
This is annual movement of giant herds of grazers over Northern Tanzania and Kenya. Africa is full of wonderful wildlife experiences but one of the most spectacular to see is the Great Migration. About two millions of wildebeest, gazelles and zebra migrate through the Serengeti national park and Maasai Mara in search of green pasture and water. And this movement also we can say is due to rainfall season so animals tend to follow where the rain is.
A once in a lifetime experience and on the bucket list of many a traveller to Africa, none can surpass this incredible spectacle: a million wildebeest crossing the plains of the Serengeti in search of fresh grass while braving predators and perilous river crossings.
s
These migrants animals move over 50miles (800km) in order to be able to survive, the migrants follow the rain as where there is rainfall there is a green pastures and fresh grasses to survive. Once the grasses are depleted they migrate again to another area where there is green pasture. The migration of wildebeest always varies from year to year in the response of the variations of weather and climate (availability of green pastures and water. Below are the description of the time and the migration area to visit
The southern Serengeti great migration at this time is made up of nutrient rich soil support the presence of grasses important for the wildebeest and their calves. These period of time the migrants usually calving on the short grass plains in the southern of Serengeti. By February is usually calving season in the Ndutu area and the southeastern plans. As migrants are so many and give birth to so many caves, the spectacle works as a magnet for predators. Early March the herds may move again in search of green pasture, so seeing the migration at this time is more difficult but the chance you will have is to encounter very large herds on the movement.
After the great migration safari, wildebeest feasted on the short green grasses of thee southeastern Serengeti and after giving birth to their offspring, they start getting ready for their 800km movement. The migrants move through central Serengeti (Seronera) to western corridor. The area is a good excellent sighting for leopard in central Serengeti and lions and elephants in the Grumeti area. The area around Moru Kopjes and west of Serengeti by May become hectic with moving columns containing hundreds of animals including Zebras and many other scattering Thomson and grant gazelles. Mating season start toward the end of May and male wildebeest battle head to head. Safari at this time offer a great value since there is low number of visitors in Serengeti but the wildlife game viewing remain excellent.
The migrants of the Great migration safari, congregate in the western corridor and start moving to North. Wildebeest, zebras and gazelles migrate towards Grumeti area of Serengeti. Many animals don’t survive the crossing as they are being awaited by the area’s population of oversized crocodiles ready to feast. The herds may accumulate on the river and stay up there for two weeks before crossing the river.
The herds’ moves further North and start crossing the next river, Mara River after the Grumeti river obstacle has taken. During September the herds spread out across the Northern Serengeti where the Mara River provides the migration with a great obstacle. The splinter herds usually accumulated in Northern Serengeti and Maasai Mara, on the beginning of October, the migrations makes its way to Serengeti, following the rain, the herds’ moves to Maasai Mara and often return to Serengeti. This activity is repeatedly for a several months. The beginning of short rains in the end of October, the migration makes its way back to Serengeti.
The short rain season in the late October and early November, the movements go down from Kenya into Eastern limit of Serengeti. The herds split moving south via western, eastern and central side of Serengeti. Animals are moving into different places, some go to lobo area towards the southern plains. By December the herds move past Seronera to return to their calving grounds again and the cycle is complete. This time they spread out the eastern and southern reaches.
