Can Young Children Go on a Tanzania Safari?
Yes, children of all ages can join a Tanzania safari, including babies and very young children. There is no general rule that says a child must reach a certain age before they can participate in a normal safari by vehicle instead they will be favored by a private Tanzania safari. The main difference is the park fee charged according to the child's age, rather than whether the child is allowed to go on safari. Children under 5 years are generally free of park entry fees, while children aged 5 to 15 years pay the applicable child rate, and visitors aged 16 and above are charged the adult rate. This means a family can travel with children of different ages, and each child can be included in the safari arrangements. The accommodation, room arrangements and safari schedule can then be planned around the children's ages. At Tanzania Natural Tours, we ask for the ages of all children before booking so we can arrange suitable accommodation, meals, vehicle arrangements and a comfortable itinerary for the whole family. If an older child is staying in their own room, the child can still be charged the applicable child park rate according to age; having their own room does not automatically make them an adult for park-fee purposes. The exact fees can vary by park and tariff, so the current park tariff is checked when preparing the safari quotation.
