What is the Marangu accommodation like?

The Marangu Route differs from most Kilimanjaro routes because you sleep in mountain huts rather than tents. The huts have basic dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds and mattresses, and you typically share the sleeping area with other climbers. The facilities are simple, so you should not expect hotel-level comfort. Toilets are basic, hot water is limited or unavailable, and temperatures can be very cold, especially at higher elevations. You will need a good sleeping bag and warm clothing. Despite the basic conditions, a solid roof and a bed after a long day of trekking can make the Marangu experience more comfortable than camping.
